Privacy Policy

Buffed ("Buffed", "we", "us") is an appointment booking platform for nail studios, operated by Making Power Moves LLC. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who it is shared with, and the choices you have.

This policy covers buffed.studio, including every studio booking page hosted on it (for example, buffed.studio/book/nailedu), and the text messages and emails Buffed sends.

Mobile information and text messages

We do not sell, rent, or share mobile phone numbers or SMS consent with any third party for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile information is never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers are shared only with our messaging provider (Twilio) for the sole purpose of delivering the messages you asked for, and with the nail studio you booked with so they can contact you about your appointment.

How you opt in. When you book an appointment on a studio's Buffed booking page, you reach a "Your details" step where you enter your own name, email address, and phone number. Directly above the "Confirm booking" button, before you submit, this notice appears:

By checking this box you agree to receive appointment text messages from this studio via Buffed at the mobile number you entered - an appointment confirmation and reminders as your appointment approaches. Message frequency varies, up to about 5 messages per appointment. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Consent is not required to book.

Checking that box is your consent, and it is the only way we obtain it. The box is not checked for you, and consent is entirely optional. You can leave it unchecked and still complete your booking; we simply will not text you. We do not collect phone numbers anywhere else, and there is no text-to-join keyword. Our email newsletter signup collects an email address only and never asks for a phone number.

What we send. Only messages about the appointment you booked: a booking confirmation, up to four reminders as the appointment approaches, and a notice if your appointment is rescheduled, cancelled, or if your nail tech is running late. We do not send marketing messages, promotional offers, or third-party content over SMS.

Message frequency. Message frequency varies and depends on your booking activity. In typical use you receive up to about 5 messages per appointment you book: a booking confirmation, up to four reminders as the appointment approaches (two weeks, one week, 24 hours, and one hour before -- a booking made closer to the appointment only gets the reminders that still fit before it), plus a message if your appointment is changed, cancelled, or if your nail tech is running late.

Message and data rates may apply. Buffed does not charge you for these messages, but your mobile carrier may.

Opting out. Reply STOP to any message to stop all appointment text messages. You may also reply STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT. You will receive one confirmation that you have been unsubscribed, and then no further messages. Opting out of SMS does not cancel your appointment. You will still receive email notifications, and you can manage or cancel your appointment from the link in your confirmation email.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Information we collect

If you book an appointment (a client): your name, email address, phone number, the studio, service, date and time you selected, and any notes you add to the booking. If the studio takes payment through Buffed, we also receive a record of the transaction from our payment processor: the amount, the date, and its status. We do not receive or store your full card number.

If you run a studio on Buffed (a studio owner): your name, email address, business name, business contact details, your services and pricing, your availability, your subscription plan, and the payout details you provide directly to our payment processor.

Automatically: basic technical information such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and timestamps, used to keep the service running and secure.

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Why we use it

To create and confirm bookings; to send you the confirmations and reminders you consented to; to let the studio you booked with contact you about your appointment; to process payments and studio subscriptions; to provide support; to detect and prevent fraud and abuse; and to meet our legal and tax obligations.

We do not sell personal information.

Who we share it with

The nail studio you booked with receives your name, contact details, and the details of your appointment, because they need it to serve you. Studios are independent businesses responsible for their own handling of that information.

We use a small number of service providers, each of which receives only what it needs to do its job and is not permitted to use it for anything else:

• Twilio. Sends text messages. Receives your phone number and message text.
• Resend. Sends email. Receives your email address and message text.
• Stripe. Processes payments and studio subscriptions. Receives payment and billing details directly.
• Supabase. Hosts our database.
• Cloudflare. Hosts and serves the website.
• Anthropic. Powers the assistants. Receives what you type to an assistant, or say to one on the phone, along with the studio information needed to answer you. It is not used to train their models.
• Vapi. Connects the phone lines. Receives call audio and the transcript of a call.
• Sentry. Reports errors so we can fix them. Receives technical details of a failure, such as the page and the error itself.
• PostHog. Product analytics. Receives which pages are visited and which features are used.

Talking to an assistant

Selena, Chloe, Ivy and the studio phone receptionists are automated assistants, not people. They are given a name so a studio's own line sounds like that studio, and if you ask one whether you are speaking to a person it will tell you plainly that you are not. Phone calls are transcribed so the studio has a record of what was said; you can ask a studio to delete a transcript at any time.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as the studio account it belongs to is active, and for 90 days after that account is cancelled, after which we delete it or irreversibly anonymize it. You may ask us to delete it sooner in writing.

Two exceptions. Transaction and payment records are kept for longer where accounting, tax, or dispute-resolution law requires it. Records of SMS opt-outs are kept indefinitely, so that we never message you again by mistake.

Your choices

You can reply STOP at any time to end text messages. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in those emails; transactional messages about an appointment you booked are not marketing and will still be sent unless you cancel the appointment.

You may ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information by emailing makingpowermovesllc@gmail.com. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under laws such as the CCPA or GDPR, including the right to know what we hold, to request deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it.

Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top will change, and material changes will be posted on this page.
